Story
So, what a day the 11th of May was! Some of us managed to run the full 100km! Many others did considerable distances! Battersea park was full of love. Over 100 people attended the finish line and life-saving amounts of money have been made. From an idea created in a pub, to reality. All for you, Shiv. <3.
At the beginning of December our dear friend and colleague Shivani was rushed into hospital after a routine blood test. Shockingly, after two weeks of turbulence, she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia. She has started chemotherapy and luckily has managed to find a match in her sister for her bone marrow transplant.
The news of Shivani's diagnosis was unbelievable, only a few weeks ago we were: playing football together after work, planning Christmas socials, and organising her football social 'stag do' to Belgium. She is one of the kindest and most thoughtful people you will ever meet, so the diagnosis seemed even more unfair.
We want to show Shivani our support in whatever way we can, so combining two of her passions of football and fitness together to form a challenge to raise money for a charity close to her heart seemed to make sense.
So, on May 11th, 3 of her colleagues as well as her good friend Katrina will attempt to run 100km between all Premier League and Championship football stadiums within the M25. Charlie, Matt, Marcus and Katrina have no ultra-running experience between them, but we do share one thing. A desire to show Shivani as much support as we can throughout this tricky period in her life. This is snowballing into many friends and family wanting to run parts of the event for Shivani. Some non-runners now training to complete 50km of the event!
Every day, Anthony Nolan saves the lives of people with a blood cancer or blood disorder. We do this by matching incredible individuals willing to donate their stem cells to people who desperately need a lifesaving transplant. We also carry out cutting edge scientific research, fund specialist post-transplant nurses and support patients and their families through the transplant process and beyond. We won’t stop until we save the lives of everyone who needs a stem cell transplant. Every penny you donate brings us closer to that day.
