Story
If you know me already, you know that I do what I can in my teaching role, and in my personal life, to seek justice and to share the blessings and love that God has for all of us with all those I meet.
Imagine you're going out for a run with a friend. Their half of the running route is clear, yet yours is lined with hurdles. Unfair, right? But that's what our education system is like for the UK's poorest children.
All children have the ability to work hard in school. But those from disadvantaged families have always had to overcome more hurdles to keep up with their wealthier classmates and it is, at times, even harder for them to active their full potential at school and after the pandemic it's estimated that ten years of progress towards an education system that works for every child has been lost.
Though educating children is very different to the way the church began UK state provision now. At the heart of the church's action is Jesus' call to treat children with radical care and love. So, I am taking part in Run the River 2024 because the UK's poorest school children need our help and I want to do my bit.
I will not be running along the River Thames in that middle of the week during term time! I will however be running the virtual 10k after school on the 9th of September from my school up to Goodrington and a bit extra to make it a good 10K.
Thanks for taking that time to read this and in considering it you can donate.
Shelley 😊
