Story
As some of you may be aware, Poppy was diagnosed as autistic earlier this year. She had suffered with "anxiety" (according to CAMHS) since she was 6 years old. When she reached secondary school age life got harder, meltdowns became more frequent and school attendance became close to impossible. Again, it was all put down to anxiety. She reached crisis point in November 2022 and was referred to the Eating Disorder team - within an hour of meeting her they suspected she was autistic. This was confirmed 5 months later.
Her diagnosis hasn't been a magic wand but it has allowed Poppy and us to start to understand why she thinks and acts the way she does. It has been a massive learning curve and the more we learn, the more we have realised that Ruby is more than likely autistic too.
Life as a teenager these days is hard enough but life as a neurodiverse teenager in a neurotypical world is really hard!!! It's time to make a change and make the world a more accepting place!
