Story

As a former camper and staff member and current parent of campers, YMCA Camp Piomingo is near and dear to my heart. For over 85 years, Camp Piomingo has enriched the lives of countless children and young adults. Not only does it provide amazing new life experiences while surrounded by nature, but it is through those experiences that children learn YMCA’s core values of honesty, caring, responsibility, respect and faith. Whether it is learning to safely build a campfire which teaches care and responsibility. Or learning how to canoe with a partner which teaches teamwork, patience and respect. Or taking on the challenge of the high ropes course or rock climbing which teaches faith in oneself and faith in others that you will not fall. The life lessons are as countless as the laughter and joy that is heard from the campers as they learn new camp cheers, attend their first camp dance or receive a cherished friendship bracelet.

As a parent, nothing brings me more joy than when I pick up my boys from camp. Despite the dirty laundry, bug bites and raspy voices from their loud cheering in the mess hall every night, my boys come home from camp each year happy, connected and recharged. Unplugging from their iphones, social media and video games, and truly connecting with their peers from all walks of life; those of diverse backgrounds, beliefs and life experiences. Camp teaches and fosters compassion, kindness and being respectful despite those differences.

Now more than ever, kids NEED camp! Unfortunately, not every family can afford to send their child to summer camp. That is why I fundraise on behalf of Camp Piomingo. If I can help send even one child to camp each summer, I know I am providing that child with skills and experiences that will last them a lifetime.

No donation is too small, and every donation makes a difference. Can you please help send a kid to camp? THANK YOU!!
