St Albans Half 2024
Campaign by AT Society (RCN 1105528)
Those looking for a challenge can take on the scenic Half Marathon or Walking Half, which takes you on a route through the country lanes of St Albans. With a wheelchair friendly course, 5K and a 1.5 mile fun run there is something for everyone!

Story

In 2022 Dara & his family very sadly lost his cousin Charlie to a disabling and life-limiting condition called ataxia-telangiectasia (AT). AT is a ‘ultra rare’, genetic and neurodegenerative disease that still unfortunately has no cure or treatment. It causes progressive physical disability, immunodeficiency, severe respiratory problems and increased incidence of cancer.

The AT Society acts as an essential lifeline, providing support, advice and advocacy for people living with AT, their family, friends and carers. Dara & I will both be running the AT Society half marathon in a bid to try and raise deserved funds for the charity.

The AT Society is completely funded by grants and donations, so any support will ensure they can continue to raise awareness and provide emotional and practical assistance. The rarity of the condition very sadly makes pharmaceutical companies less likely to prioritise treatments for AT. Research funded by the society will help make a difference, advancing the understanding and treatment of AT through further medical research.

Any support and donation, would be really appreciated.

Wish us luck…

Shauna & Dara
