Story
Hello everybody, thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On October 15th I am taking part in the Eden Marathon. It’s a big challenge with lots of hills and of course 26 miles! (As well as the 150 miles of training between now and then.)
The marathon will be in aid of a cause which is really important to my family - Torbay’s Special Care Baby Unit. As you may know, my wife and I welcomed our twin boys into the world in November 2022. The boys were born 6 and a half weeks prematurely and spent 3 weeks being looked after by these amazing people. Special Care is a very difficult place to spend time in with a steady stream of poorly/premature babies entering. It can really take its toll on your mental health. We were so grateful for the care we received and couldn’t thank the staff enough for looking after our boys and us as parents during such a difficult time.
This marathon is a thank you to them. SCBU are always trying to raise money to purchase equipment to improve the stays of babies in the unit, such as a twin cot which they successfully fundraised for last year. They also want to make life in the unit a little bit easier for parents. Their latest target to fundraise for is a designated parent well-being area where parents can take a break from their baby’s bedsides, breathing machines and monitors, without having to leave the unit. During our time in the unit, despite never wanting to leave our children, we were always amazed at how much better we felt after a 10 minute break away. So let’s help make it happen for these amazing people!
Please support me if you can.
Shaun.
