Story
In 1965 the Beach Boys Brian Wilson must have known Sharon Gustafson when he wrote California Girls. No matter which part of California they are from, a California girl is immune to stress, loves the outdoors, handles herself with confidence, is open to trying new things and exploring new places. It’s no surprise that Sharon Gustafson-Florescue is the perennial California Girl, transplanted from California to South Florida, showering us with her brand of sunshine wherever she goes. Upon meeting Sharon, you’ll be welcomed by a warm, friendly smile, a helpful disposition, and a gentle yet genuine laugh. Over the past 30+ years, she has been involved in numerous charities and was a founding member of the Cystic Fibrosis Gold Coast Guild in Fort Lauderdale when she first moved to Ft. Lauderdale in 1986. After thinking about her philanthropic efforts, she sums it up this way: “When I can help others, it helps me to grow. Making someone happy or comforted always makes me happy, and it’s what brings joy to my life”. Joyful is the ideal adjective to describe Sharon. Her life hasn’t always been easy, but it has been deeply blessed as she recounts her memories. An only child who was unusually close to her loving mother, Sharon was instilled with a strong maternal instinct that she shares with her family. Her family includes two beautiful daughters, Susan and Shannon, and a handsome son, James, along with three grandchildren ages 22, 20, and 4 years old. With homes in Ft. Lauderdale, Aspen, and Vail, Colorado, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and Manhattan, NY, this dynamo recently launched the launch of her newest family-owned real estate venture, Sharon Enterprises. In true Sharon Gustafson fashion, the lunch has been a great and exciting success. Sharon is often shuttling across the country, enjoying family and friends and supporting charity events to help those in the greatest need. A very proud member of the Royal Dames Board of Trustees, Sharon Gustafson-Florescue and the Florescue Foundation make a significant impact in the lives of those facing cancer through cancer research programs at the Rumbaugh-Goodwin Institute located at Nova Southeastern University. The highlight of Sharon’s philanthropic and inspired moments was when her late husband, Barry Florescue, gifted Sharon with the unveiling of her name in grand letters on the Junior Achievement Huiezenga Center, a charity partner that she supports with great enthusiasm. Did we mention Sharon’s love of all things pink? The ultimate girl’s girl, Sharon’s kind personality and affinity for femininity makes it easy to see her attraction to pink. She even drives a Barbie pink convertible as she zips around South Florida. “Years ago, my husband Robert and I went on a wonderful trip to Santorini, Greece. At the time Lalique crystal launched a line called the Pink Collection. After seeing the collection in a little shop on the island, I fell in love with all of it. As a surprise, Robert bought the entire collection for me while in Greece and had it shipped back to the States when we returned. Now my condo is filled with pink Lalique!” She laughs with excitement as she shares her memories and musings. “I am so fortunate to have my health and it means a great deal to be able to help my community.” Such is the light that shines from within this impeccable California girl.
