Today 1st April is Agápe’s 10th Anniversary in Business. With reaching this milestone we decided we’d like to do something to help give back to the community and with also soon to be opening our new branch in Brierfield we looked for a charity to support that serves both the communities we work in (Rossendale & Pendle), hence for our 10th year why we’ve decided to support PAC but more specifically their Suicide Prevention and Intervention Training.
The work PAC does around Mental Health & Wellbeing:
When a young person takes their own life, it is heart breaking and significantly impacts family, friends, and the local community. Youth suicide in East Lancashire has become a pressing concern in recent years as the county continues to witness an alarming rise in overall suicide rates. From 2019 to 2021, according to Lancashire County Council, tragically, Lancashire's suicide rates exceed the national average (for all ages 10+), with districts like Chorley, Preston, Rossendale, and Lancaster experiencing significantly higher rates than the National Average. An analysis of these figures reveals that residents of Rossendale, Chorley, and Preston account for more than one-third of suicide-related deaths in all of Lancashire. Positive Action in the Community is working to make a positive change in the lives of people across Lancashire by supporting their Mental Health and wellbeing. Making mental health a top priority, Positive Action in the Community provides counselling and therapeutic support services currently in East Lancashire to help young people and adults struggling with their mental health. In addition to this, PAC delivers a programme of training for anyone who lives or works across the whole of Lancashire, which includes; Youth Mental Health First Aid, Adult Mental Health First Aid, SafeTalk and ASIST Training (Suicide Prevention and Intervention Training) - arming people from Lancashire with life-saving skills when it comes to helping individuals who may be suicidal or going through an emotional crisis. Any donations raised as part of the Agape Funeral Service's 10th Anniversary Celebrations will specifically fund Counselling and therapeutic interventions and the expansion of PAC's training offer so that more young people get the wellbeing support they need. Please share this JustGiving page and generously support Agape Funeral Service's Fundraising and help PAC raise awareness about Youth Suicide and increase the support and training available locally.
