Story
This is our brave daughter, Maya.
In 2016 whilst on our summer holiday in Majorca, Maya was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) and our lives were turned upside down. From playing round the pool, to being sedated and in intensive care within the space of 8 hours is every parents worst nightmare as I’m sure you can imagine. We knew we were in for the fight of our lives.
5 days later, the incredible doctors in Majorca managed to get Maya’s bloods stable enough to fly home, and we were flown home via air ambulance back to Manchester and treatment at the Royal Manchester Childrens Hospital commenced shortly after.
Fast forward 2 years and 3 months later, Maya rang the End of Treatment Bell after the most courageous battle against this terrible disease.
This summer, Maya will be 5 years clear, and to mark this event, she asked us if she could do a sponsored walk for Cure Leukaemia, inspired by one of her incredible consultants, Rob Wynn, who is also raising money to find a cure for this terrible disease.
We are aware that great progress is being made in finding the cure and with the help of much needed clinical trials, more and more kids are being saved, however, one child is too many.
Maya will be walking 12 miles over the Rossendale moors this summer and would greatly appreciate any donations.
Thank you for reading Mayas story and for any donations that Maya receives.

Cure Leukaemia helps blood cancer patients to access pioneering drug and transplant treatments by funding a network of specialist research nurses across the UK. Without these nurses, to ensure patients are monitored and cared for, clinical trials of these new treatments would not run and patients, that have exhausted standard treatment options, would miss out on potentially lifesaving therapies. Every penny raised for Cure Leukaemia helps save lives and also hastens global progress towards the eradication of all forms of blood cancer.
