Story
We are running our first marathon in Seville in February 2025 for our amazing sister & cousin Ciara, who was diagnosed with MS in 2022.
Please donate if you can, it means so much to us & this charity has already done so much to help Ciara.
Ciara’s story:
I’m Ciara, I’m 29 years old and I was diagnosed with relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) in December 2022. For months I had been experiencing extreme fatigue but had not thought anything of it and just blamed it on other things until my holiday in May 2022. After experiencing electric shock sensations in my legs when I flexed my neck (Lhermitte’s sign), numbness and pins & needles, I instantly knew something wasn’t right. When I flew home, I saw my GP and after many consultations, MRI Scans & finally a lumbar puncture, my dreaded diagnosis was confirmed.
MS is a condition which affects your brain & spinal cord. The coating (myelin) that surround & protect your nerves are essentially damaged causing both physical and mental change, both of which I experience now in my every day life.
There is currently no cure for MS, however, the MS Society play a huge role in trying to change this. When I was diagnosed, I was advised to visit the MS Society page as it had every bit of information I needed - showing the importance of this wonderful charity. They work endlessly in funding research and campaigning for change. They also provide help and support for people suffering with MS and their families. I have experienced first hand the amazing work they do, after my diagnosis I was referred very quickly to a psychologist within the MS Society and was able to speak to someone for as long as I required to help me come to terms with my diagnosis, all free of charge.
Every penny donated to the society, goes a long way. In future, I hope and pray we will have a cure for this chronic illness.
But with thanks to people like you reading this story & donating money and of course to my amazing little brother Marc and my wonderful cousins who I’m extremely proud of and lucky to have in my life (Rachael, Callum & Gregor) they continue to put their body through these tough events to raise money & awareness.
All I can say to you all is thank you so much.
