Story

After two successful expeditions with Women On A Mission (WOAM) — hiking in the Kyrgyz mountains in 2022 and crossing the Namib Desert on foot in 2023, raising over USD 150,000 for Women for Women International — I'm embarking on a new challenge!

For the first time, WOAM is proud to support Humanity Crew, a renowned mental health aid organization specializing in disaster risk response and providing mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS).

This next expedition, my third and WOAM's thirteenth, will take place from August 30 to September 10, 2024. I will join ten women from around the world to navigate the Norwegian Svalbard Archipelago, formerly known as Spitsbergen. Our route will take us through Tryhggamna, Ymerbukta, Nansen, Bore, Wahlenberg, and Svéa — six distinct glaciers, each presenting unique challenges and breathtaking wonders.

Although I have honed my trekking skills over the past two years, I have never kayaked more than a few hours with my kids on holidays. Now, facing six-hour days in a double kayak, in a drysuit to avoid hypothermia if we fall into the water, will be a completely new challenge for me.

However, this challenge is well worth it — not only for the experience of exploring unknown territories but, more importantly, for raising funds for Humanity Crew's vital mission of providing life-saving mental health emergency aid to displaced children and women.

More About Humanity Crew:

Founded in 2015 by Advocate Maria Jammal and Dr. Essam Daod, Humanity Crew emerged from their experiences providing urgent medical treatment and psychological first aid to Syrian refugees on Lesvos Island. Their dream evolved into a vision of creating physical hubs of mental health skills and awareness, offering comprehensive support services to disaster-affected communities. Now, Humanity Crew aims to expand their impact by building a global network of trained staff and volunteers. More details about their work can be found on our Team Page.

Please note that our expedition is fully self-funded, so any donation you make will go 100% to Humanity Crew.

Thank you in advance for your generous support.
