Story
STOP THE TRAFFIK (STT) works to prevent human trafficking and modern slavery around the world, by using technology and data to disrupt criminal networks.
Last year, STT reached over 5 million people around the world with their prevention campaigns. This year, they are aiming to double that.
An estimated 50 million people are trapped in modern-day slavery around the world. Inequality, poverty, fleeing natural disasters and war zones are some of the reasons people fall victim to traffickers.
STT moves quickly to respond to some desperate situations around the world, incl. preventing the sexual exploitation of women fleeing Ukraine and following the recent earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. Other targeted campaigns have included forced labour of young workers in the Philippines, workers’ rights abuses around the Qatar World Cup and the prevention of child exploitation in the UK.
This is my first triathlon - I’ve always been put off by the swim, but have spent the past six months learning front crawl and building up my bike stamina. My day of pain and facing my fears of swimming in cold, dark water is nothing compared to what human trafficking victims have to face, so I and STT would be appreciative of any donation you may be able to give to help STT's important work.
What is the CELTMAN!?
Scotland’s extreme triathlon (I need the fear to motivate me out of bed to train!). 3.4km swim across Loch Shieldaig - jellyfish and v cold water, followed by 200km bike ride and rounded off with 42km trail marathon - if I make the cut-off, up Beinn Eighe; if not, for safety reasons, I’ll be on the lower route.
Praying for decent weather this year (unlike last year), and that I make it - unfrozen - out of the water!
Thank you so much!!
