Story
Hi, my name is Leo Street. I am 14 years old and an explorer scout in the Bromley district. After finding the transition from primary school to secondary during covid difficult, I did some research and wanted to fundraise for a mental health charity to support others who needed help too. I chose Shout 85258 because they communicate using text messages and thought people my age would find this easier.
For the whole of 2021 I slept outside in my hammock in temperatures as low as -6, winds that split my tarp and snow and frost. I went on a family holiday to the new forest and while the family stayed in a hotel, I slept in my hammock in the grounds of a local scout group. Thanks to everyone supporting me I managed to raise over £8000 for Shout 85258.
This year I wanted to challenge myself once again. I will be cycling 486 miles (unless we get lost) from Swanley to Edinburgh with my mum and nan who are coming with me to support me on the journey. Dad will be behind us where he can or just a call away just in case. This will be done over 9 days starting 2nd April and finishing Easter Monday. I understand these are hard times financially for everyone, but if you are able to donate even £1 it will all add up and help this amazing charity.
Thankyou for taking the time to read my journey so far.
Shout is the UK's only 24/7 text service for anyone struggling to cope with their mental health. We respond to 1,500-2,000 requests for support every day and have taken over 1.5 million conversations with people who are anxious, depressed or suicidal.
Every £10 Shout receives can pay for a conversation with someone in crisis, and could save a life.
£25 can help us reach disadvantaged communities that most need mental health support.
£50 means that five children, young people and adults could receive potentially life-saving help.
