Story
Hello,
My name is Scott Pearshouse and I am a mental health Ambassador for LionHeart RICS.
"A LionHeart mental health ambassador is an RICS professionals who has had experience of mental ill health either personally or through a close relative or friend"
My mental heath experience has been kindly shared by LionHeart on a recent LinkedIn post during Brain Injury Awareness Week (you can read the blog which details my story here).
One August morning in 2011, when after a fall from 40ft, I suffered a traumatic brain injury and several broken bones, and his loved ones were warned he would face a very different future - if he survived at all. Not only did he survive, but went on to qualify as a chartered surveyor, against all the odds. Now volunteering as an ambassador for LionHeart, Scott shares his extraordinary story of resilience and learning to walk and talk again - and why in some ways he is thankful for the accident that nearly claimed his life.
Lionheart’s 125th Anniversary Challenge
The past 13 years have been filled with challenges but 2024 is a big one for me; I'm about to hit 4-0. I haven't taken it lightly and for the first time since my accident, I decided it was time to share my experience. I have shared my innermost vulnerabilities with the RICS, LionHeart, SameYou.org and the World on LinkedIn, with the hope of sparking a conversation within men about the importance of mental health. I have also moved companies to SES Prism, who are the off-site manufacture arm of Wates Group.
Life for me is all about challenging myself, I'm always striving to improve my physical and mental health. Ensuring I can provide for and am always present for my family.
What is the challenge?
Throughout the month of June there are four options available for teams of three:
1. to run 125 miles as a team
2. to walk 125 km's as a team
3. to cycle 125 miles per team member
4. or combine the three for 125 miles as a team
and raise £125 throughout the month.
HOWEVER.
I have decided to enter TWO teams of three to raise £1,000!
Team 1. RUN 125 miles as a team
Team 2. CYCLE 125 miles per team member
Who will be involved?
I have recruited four of Bromsgrove's finest gentlemen and athletes from David Lloyd Bromsgrove to help raise money and awareness for this great cause.
The Running team: THE HEDGEHOGS
1. Me
2. Mark 'Smoo' Smith
3. Rob 'Sonic' Haywood
The cycling team: The LEGO EGGS
1. Me
2. Ken 'Legohead' Hadley
3. Kinder 'Egg' Ubhi - (Withdrawn for health reasons 03.06.24)
How much money are you hoping to raise?
We have a target of £125 per team, so £250 total.
As of 2nd June we have smashed the original target and our new target is now £1,000.
All I ask is that you give whatever you can afford, show some support and share my page with friends, colleagues, supply chain partners and whoever else may be interested to help LionHeart continue their great work.
A little bit about LionHeart
LionHeart is the charity for RICS professionals, past and present, and their families. We’ve helped thousands of surveyors and their families for over 100 years, and we plan to be here for many more. Our services are available to every member of RICS and their families, from APC candidates right through your career and into retirement. Donations are absolutely vital to our work. We help people just like you, who happen to have hit a tough time in their lives, by providing financial help, work-related support, counselling or legal advice.
Examples of the different donations from you could make
£25. Could give someone struggling with stress a one hour consultation with a LionHeart Support Officer.
£50. Could provide early intervention counselling sessions for a teenager experiencing mental health issues.
£100. Could provide emergency provisions to a family who have been devastated by a house fire.
£150. Could help run a 30-minute wellbeing webinar to support RICS professionals with their mental health.
