We offer expert care, guidance and support to people living with a terminal illness

Story

On 30th June 2024, I’ll be running the Mont-Blanc Marathon for Marie Curie. The mission here is to help provide care for those who need it most and show gratitude to the nurses, doctors, healthcare professionals and support team members who do truly incredible work every day. This challenge has a very significant meaning for my family, as we are about to enter our 40th year in business with Oasis Travel. The company was founded with the help of my grandfather, Leslie Corkin, who passed away from Lung Cancer but received remarkable end of life care.

The ambition is to raise enough to help fund Marie Curie Hospice for one whole day.

Marie Curie believe that terminal illness and disease does not care about race, religion, age, gender, background or your social status, it is likely to impact unfortunately us all at some point in our lives. In those dark moments, no one should be denied the care they deserve and should be treated with love and dignity.

If together we can fund one day of care, if one person’s journey can be improved, or if it makes the end of life even 1% easier for one family, then that’s worth it for me. So, in summary it’s to honour the memory of my grandfather, to support the families currently dealing with losing a loved one and to say thank you to the inspiring people who are involved with Marie Curie.

Thank you very much in advance for all of your support. It means the world.

About the event: The Mont-Blanc Marathon takes place in the Chamonix Valley of the French Alps. The route will be up and down the slopes of Mont Blanc, which is the highest peak in the Alps, taking in climbs of over 2,000 metres with only 2,300 runners selected to take part. It’s one of the most in demand trail races in the world and I’m very fortunate to be able to take part.

About the charity: Marie Curie `is here for anyone with an illness they’re likely to die from, and those close to them. Whatever the illness, wherever you are, they are with you to the end. They bring 75 years of experience and leading research to the care we give you at home, in our hospices and over the phone. And they push for a better end of life for all by campaigning and sharing research to change the system.
