***updated page to continue my support for Operation Smile in 2024***
On May 22nd I’ll be running 300 miles along the Cambrian way to support Operation Smile and set a new fastest known time for the trail.
2023 marks the 35th Anniversary of Johnson & Johnsons partnership with Operation Smile.
To celebrate that landmark this year I will be taking on one of my biggest challenges yet attempting to become the first Briton to run the Triple Crown of 200s.
The Triple Crown of 200s consists of three 200 mile races run consecutively over four months (Tahoe in mid-June, Bigfoot in August, Moab in early October) — making this epic feat the ultimate ultra challenge! This unique series was created to highlight the most scenic and non-repetitive 200’s in the USA.
They are either point-to-point or single loop courses, featuring a plethora of single-track trails, loads of elevation gain… and an adventure of a lifetime. They are all located in world-class outdoor destinations: the Cascade Mountains in Washington (Bigfoot 200), Lake Tahoe in California (Tahoe 200) and Moab. All of them are considered amongst the longest and hardest Ultramarathons the planet.
IThe reason I'm doing this is that to date over the last 8 years I have raised 93 smiles for Operation Smile and this year I would like to raise 42 smiles to take the total to 135 in the 35th year.
It is easy to take for granted the surgical care we have available. But for too many people safe surgery is not an option. Children born with cleft lip and palate in the developing world cannot access the surgery they desperately need for a healthy, happy future. Instead they face difficulty breathing, eating and speaking and are left to live in social isolation due to the stigma surrounding their condition.
It costs as little as £150 and takes just 45 minutes to provide this life-changing surgery.
Thank you for helping me raise smiles!
