Story
Scotland Hat Walk is an event launching on 7th April 2024 in collaboration with London Hat Walk and World Hat Walk which consists of 14 locations globally all having parades of people wearing hats on the same day.
Leanne Cairns says about the reason she is trying to make a difference is Emma pictured below right.
"Meet Emma who was diagnosed with a Craniopharyngioma when she was only 10 years old (right). Now at 14 she is stable with this rare and unpredictable tumour but needs constant care, medications 4/5 times a day to regulate her hormones which these tumours upset by practically destroying the pituitary gland. This is a rare tumour in kids affecting 1 in 2-3 million. The results of the hormone deficiencies are life threatening for growth and puberty and can hold them back from their peers as they develop at a slower rate and can affect their memory and emotions.
Emma is a witty, humorous and intelligent girl with such a resilience and as she is like a niece to me I think she is growing into a very special young lady. There is no cure for this tumour, it can cause weigh gain and cardiovascular problems later in life but overall Emma has an active and supported life with constant care to maintain that. Kids with this now rarely have invasive surgery to remove these tumours but instead are treated to keep a good quality of life and prevent fatal out comes.
I see this as a perfect opportunity to spread more awareness of Brain Tumours in all their forms and tell the stories of all those affected and it just shows how vital research is to improving people living with this and dying from it. Please donate and help us Find A Cure."
SCOTLAND HAT WALK is fundraising for Brain Tumour Research as they are the only national charity dedicated to funding long-term, sustainable research in the UK. Please help me fund the fight. Together we will find a cure.
