Story
Two members of Scimcon will be 'cycling to work' this June. The trip will involve a 3 day, 350 mile cycle ride from one of our co-founders’ homes in Scotland to the Scimcon office located in Newmarket, Suffolk. This ride serves as a platform to raise awareness for our selected company charity, Blood Cancer UK. We greatly appreciate any donations received.
Why are we raising money for Blood Cancer UK? This charity is particularly close to our hearts due to the support that one of the Scimcon team has received.
'For 3 years our family lived with Acute myeloid leukaemia (AML). My wife was diagnosed in 2016 and our world turned upside down. She is the strongest and most optimistic person you could ever meet. Throughout multiple rounds of chemotherapy her positivity never wavered, despite some very low days.
I wish we could all be as strong as her. Two hospital Christmas Day dinners, the worry, the uncertainty and endless walks around hospital grounds keeping all the family updated, while all the time trying to balance work commitments wasn’t easy.
When in 2019 it was clear that the chemo hadn’t worked and the only option was a stem cell transplant, the support we had from family and friends was amazing. Everyone registered as a stem cell donor. The support we had from Blood Cancer UK and DKMS was wonderful we couldn’t have coped without them all.
This summer July 2024 she will have been in remission for 5 years. The long-term side effects of all the chemotherapy remain but she is determined to live her live to the full and look back and smile.
We laugh that her hair colour has changed – “Perhaps my donor had dark hair” she says. She no longer likes alcohol – “Perhaps my donor did not drink” she says.'
Now is our time to give back; we desperately need someone to find a cure for AML and other blood cancers, offering those suffering and their loved ones the prospect of a future of genuine hope and optimism.
