SCHS - Dignity packages for Masicorp

Wear red for period poverty · 9 June 2023
Streatham and Clapham High School and Prep School are raising funds for Masicorp https://www.masicorp.org/.
Masiphumelele is an informal settlement of over 40,000 people near Capetown, South Africa. Life for women and girls here is particularly hard as fresh water and toilet facilities are in short supply.
Period poverty is a common daily problem among girls in Masi. Many have limited access to menstrual products and opt to use small cut cloth as alternatives, which are not suitable, are very unhygienic and are uncomfortable. Some girls end up absconding from school (because of the shame of not having menstrual products), which can lead to poor grades or even dropping out of school. At Masicorp, we believe every child in Masi should have access to support and there are no barriers that hinder any progress with their schooling. We have identified the need to support girls and women with monthly menstrual products. The aim is to ensure that girls confidently attend school lessons and participate in our programmes throughout the year. We propose to offer sanitary products to female learners from the Arts Club, High School Sewing, International Computer Driving Lesson (ICDL) and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) programmes. This is over 200 girls and women. We would like to provide an emergency sanitary supplies box for each one of our programmes, that Masicorp staff may also have access to, that gets replenished on an annual basis.
Your support means so much to our pupils and those at Masi.
Thank you
