Story
I’m running the Stockholm marathon on the 3rd of June with my lovely sis and hopefully my Dad, if injury does not knock him out of the race.
As well as aiming to get to the finish line, I will be raising money for The Alzheimer’s Society in memory of my Grandad (Gramps).
My memories of Gramps before he was seriously affected by dementia are quite hazy, but involve a lot of rugby and Guinness. He was a yes man, always up for a day at the beach (always in shorts), he took 10 minutes to unwrap a present and never wasted food or said no to coffee and cake.
A while after Gramps died, I watched my parents’ wedding video, and once again saw him at his prime. It was difficult to come to terms with the years that the disease had taken away from him and the family.
The Alzheimer’s Society not only provide care and support for those suffering from dementia and their families. They complete ground breaking research into causes of the disease and ways to delay onset. They also provide services like weekly check in calls to those who are suffering alone.
I know this was a bit of an essay so thank you if you got to the end. If you can spare any pennies to sponsor my race I will be hugely appreciative and it will be going to what I hope you agree is a great place! 🏃♀️💗
