Story
Giving birth at 26 weeks to my daughter was terrifying. My two sons were both fulll term and 10lb so we had never imagined we could have such a small vulnerable baby. It has been a journey of resilliance, lay medical training and faith. I have previously ran each year for Rockinghorse simply becuase I believe in giving back. When I learnt of Dame Vera Lynn Children's Charity it felt like a sign that I was supposed to run for them. They have recently moved to Chailey and their new centre is outstanding.
We were told our daughter could have many developmental issues being born so early and cerebral palsy was one of them. We have been lucky that she has developed with very few medical complications but it has been a very stressful journey. One of the things I always raise money for is for the extra support that children and parents need when faced with scarey diagnosis and illness.
Dame Vera Lynn children's charity help under 5's with cerebral palsy and other motor learning impairments make the best possible start in life and give families the support and skills to continue their development at home. Parents and children work together in a supportive environment to improve a child's physical, social and emotional skills through hands on one-to-one and small group sessions. We celebrate the children we work with, no matter their ability, to show parents and the wider world everything they can do.
