Story
I've challenged myself to run / bike 100km this month - and the amazing Team Waller have pledged to keep me company on some of those legs too. I'm not sure how long their enthusiasm will last once the reality of UK November weather kicks in, but I'm sure any sponsorship and motivational comments on the wall will help keep spurring them on!!
I'm probably crazy attempting this as I don't regularly run or cycle, and struggle to motivate myself to head out with any frequency / commitment (I should probably only be aiming for 50km but I decided to be bold and really push myself for the special milestone of Embracing Age's 10th anniversary!!), so any sponsorship and encouragement you can give would be massively appreciated and give me the boost I need!
Embracing Age is a charity very close to my heart, where I am constantly blown away by the enormous impact on the older care home residents supported through its projects - like Jean who said her volunteer befriender had
"absolutely transformed my life".
Older care home residents are twice as likely to feel severely lonely as older people living in the community. One resident in her 90's described it as
being alone in a crowd."
Embracing Age mobilises volunteers to bring regular joy and companionship to residents - as trained befrienders, sending monthly handmade cards and other initiatives to show the resident that
When I feel alone, I think of you all and I know I'm not alone. Thank you so much."
By donating to my challenge, you'll enable more residents to enjoy regular companionship and know they are not forgotten. Just £10 could help fund the vetting required to place a new volunteer befriender with a resident.
Together, we will help more older care home residents feel valued, connected and full of hope.
Thank you so much for your support!
