Story
I am raising money for The Seafarer's Charity (formerly Seafarers UK) who have been improving the lives of seafarers and their families for over 100 years.
The fishing industry is facing increasingly difficult issues currently, and it is likely to be the fishing charities who it will fall on to support fishermen through the harsh times that are being faced. The overwhelming regulatory burden will lead to an increase in welfare support in fishing communities which ultimately will increase the work of those fishing charities already working hard quayside to support.
I have decided to take up the challenge of swimming daily for 365 days, mainly from Brixham, but also from other seafaring ports around the UK coast and sometimes from the coastline in fishing communities over seas.
I ran the London Marathon for The Seafarers UK in 2018 and wish to support this vital charity again through my next challenge over the coming 12 months.
At the time of writing this page, I have just finished my own breast cancer journey, now cancer clear, and will find the swimming challenge difficult, particularly when the sea is bitterly cold.
Your donations will go direct to The Seafarers Charity to enable them to support our fishing communities during the tough times that the industry face currently and into the future. 100% of all donations will reach this Charity immediately through your donation.
