Story
Cant believe I'm lucky enough to be here raising money for this amazing charity. As a previous cancer sufferer myself I thought i knew it all about the dreaded 'C' word but I sure as hell had no idea about PMP, until my mum was diagnosed last year. After being misdiagnosed with various other issues it took a very astute and aware doctor to push for more testing for my mum, which lead to her diagnosis. I wont go into too much detail but this is a harsh and rare cancer, one that has very little treatment options and without the amazing team at Basingstoke (only one of a couple of hospitals in the UKwho can treat this rare form of cancer) they accepted my mum for a rather grueling, hardcore surgery (hipec) which essentially gave her, her life, and is a reason as to why I still get to share my life with her now.
Running this half marathon means so so much to me: running for this charity for one, but also because this is my first running task I've set myself since I was diagnosed with cancer myself initially in 2019. This is a big feat for me but knowing I am doing it for this amazing charity who offered amazing support, and for raising awareness to a cancer I had never even heard of means the world.
Pseudomyxoma Survivor is a non-profit organization, run by patients and caregivers. Pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP) is a rare cancer that generally starts in the appendix with mucinous cancer spreading in the abdomen.
We have a thriving support community supporting anyone whose life has been touched by PMP as well as appendix cancer and other peritoneal surface malignancies. We’re completely dependent on voluntary donations. Our patron is Sean Hepburn Ferrer. Sean’s mother, Audrey Hepburn, passed away shortly after being diagnosed with PMP.
