Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We have decided to retrace a section of a WW2 Special Operations Executive (SOE) mission, Operation Gunnerside, which had the primary objective of stopping the development of an atomic bomb by an invading force. For those of us old enough to remember the film, ‘The Hero’s of Telemark’, it was VERY loosely based on SOE missions in Norway.
We will be retracing the route that the original saboteurs took through the Hardanger Vidda with the aim of reaching the Vemork hydroelectric power plant on the 82nd anniversary of the successful conclusion of the SOE mission. It won’t be easy (or pleasant) but we are looking forward to the challenge!
The bravery and resilience of those original saboteurs was helped in part by the training they received from British allies in Scotland so to act as an incentive to stay focused on the training (and the trip) in the cold, dark winter, we decided to set up a fundraising page and raise funds for our Arctic Warriors, men who’s role exits today, to defend these physically challenging environments.
