Story
So, one evening while Kate and I were socialising over a bottle of wine, we decided that we wanted to challenge ourselves (and I mean REALLY challenge ourselves) whilst raising money for a cause that we both feel passionately about.
So the challenge...
We are swapping diving into a bottle of wine for diving into 2'800m of the Swedish ocean around the island of Uto, part of the Stockholm archipelago. Where for good measure, we will also squeeze in 13'800m of trail running.
Neither of us has run or swam since school days...
The catalyst and cause...
We want to help cure blood cancer.
Sounds like a bold undertaking but we are deadly serious.
A close friend of ours called Pete McCleave was diagnosed with a blood cancer in 2017 at age 37 and given 7 years to live. Pete is dad to 2 boys who are friends with our own children and since diagnosis, has campaigned to raise awareness of stem cell technology, one of the treatments that has the potential to extend his life.
Unfortunately he is yet to find someone, his genetic twin, to donate him their healthy stem cells but in the meantime, his campaign, 10000donors.com has found 20 matches for other patients in need.
But the future of medical interventions and potential cures is close and the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne want to mobilise a research project to decode blood cancer; specifically Myeloma which Pete has.
They need to raise £50'000 to run the first year so we want to hit £10'000 then keep going to get the project going as AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
Time is of the essence so we want to do our bit.
Hence this fundraiser.
Lives will be saved through your generosity so please, support our crazy Swedish Swimrun and save lives in the process.
Thankyou!!
Sarah and Kate
