Story

The short version…

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. In a few weeks time (end June/ early July) I will be swimming the English Channel as part of a relay team to raise money for Mencap, a charity supporting people with learning disabilities. It’s going to be a tough challenge and we have spent the last year or so training, please donate/ support if you can! 🏊‍♀️

A bit more info…

In summer 2024 I will be part of a team of five or six Mencap Marvels swimming across The English Channel. The stretch of water is 21 miles (36km), and with the tides it often ends up being a long swim and can take teams up to 16 hours.

For a swim to be officially recognised by the Channel Swimming Association no wetsuits are allowed, so I have built up my tolerance to swimming in cold water! With a few weeks to go the water temperature is currently around 14 degrees (a bit chillier than the average swimming pool at 28-30 degrees!)

Our team will have a support boat and pilot to ensure we’re navigating the right way through what is essentially one of the business shipping lanes in the world 😳 fingers crossed we don’t get too sea sick and there aren’t too many jellyfish…

This is all to help support the charity Mencap. They are the biggest UK charity supporting people with learning disabilities as well as their carers, families and communities. They are a well known brand but they are significantly underfunded today so please support this great charity if you can.

Thank you! Sarah 💚
