Story
Thank you for visiting our page. We’re proud to be running the 2025 TCS London Marathon and raising important funds and awareness for Anaphylaxis UK, a charity of great importance to us.
When it all began
22nd April 2024 (one day post London Marathon 2024)
Liv: “I want to run the London Marathon next year for Joe”
JOE
Our gorgeous, annoying, funny, kind, rebellious, thoughtful, pain in the arse, perfectly imperfect brother and son died on 1st November 2021 from Anaphylaxis while out in Mexico living the dream. He was just 19 years old.
Joe had food allergies with sesame being by far the most severe. After sending back his meal 3 times explaining to the waiting staff that if he ate sesame he would die and checking it one final time he thought it would be safe to eat. After a mouthful he knew something was wrong. Unknown to Joe the burrito had hummus in it. The end result was Joe dying of anaphylaxis shortly afterwards.
Joe should have lived to celebrate Liv’s birthday that month, should have lived to celebrate his 21st birthday, should have lived to see his friends graduate from university, should have lived to possibly marry and have children, be an uncle and bury his parents. Instead we had to do that for him.
Joe died due to the lack of awareness and education of allergies out in Mexico. Although here in the UK we are more aware there is still a long way to go for the public, businesses, schools etc to take allergies seriously and have the knowledge required to prevent more lives being lost.
US
As a grieving family we are lost. Although Joe died that day a big part of us died too. Our lives are unrecognisable. Everyday is a struggle, every breath is another breath we have to take with the knowledge that our brother and son will never walk back through our front door., hug us, laugh with us or annoy the hell out of us. There is absolutely nothing we can do to change that fact. And it isn’t just us. The ripples just keep going further and further out.
However, there is something we can do to help prevent another family experiencing the world changing loss that we have suffered…
…by raising money. Money that will help raise awareness and educate people, businesses and schools of anaphylaxis and allergies.
Liv has taken the lead on this and although Sarah (and hopefully Lee) will be running along side her, Liv will be running the London Marathon 2025 in Joe’s memory and honour.
We are not runners and our training is starting from the sofa. The training and race day is very daunting and to be honest we’re crapping our pants! But we have already been through the worst thing anyone can ever go through and know that this immense challenge is surmountable. If there’s one thing that will keep us on track, it is Joe (and our very expensive new trainers). This won’t bring him back but we hope it will bring us closer to him.
Knowing you are all behind us is amazing and we know that this will help us through the dark times of training.
Please follow our Instagram page to keep up with our progress through training. The ups, the downs, the fun and the pain.
