Story
Hello! Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As you may know, a year ago this month I was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer with liver mets. After two surgeries and 8 rounds of Chemo I am now in remission. This is thanks to the hard work and knowledge of the NHS, the Beatson and many cancer support charities such as Macmillan and Cancer Support Scotland.
I am so happy to now be at a point in my journey that I can start fundraising and raising awareness. Something I have looked forward to being able to do for a long time.
My amazing new friend Laila has kindly invited me on a 12 Mile walk on the 22nd of October to raise money for The Beatson. If you are able please pop in a few bucks. Any money raised goes a long way to supporting individuals and families affected by cancer.
My other amazing friend Colin White is going to be joining us on this big trek. An act that is in keeping with his support and strength to me, and to others, in this past year.
Colon cancer is on the rise in young women. I was diagnosed at 30 years old after months of stomach pain. I experienced all the classic symptoms of colin cancer but they were overlooked due to my age and gender.
The NHS website states the following as the main symptoms of bowel cancer:
changes in your poo, such as having softer poo, diarrhoea or constipation that is not usual for you
needing to poo more or less often than usual for you
blood in your poo, which may look red or black
bleeding from your bottom
often feeling like you need to poo, even if you've just been to the toilet
tummy pain
bloating
losing weight without trying
feeling very tired for no reason
Thank you for reading.
