Story
Sara & Claire are back walking together, hoping to raise more money for the Yorkshire Brain Tumour Charity! This year we have upped the mileage and will be walking a marathon from Cromer to Holkham Hall. The date is set for the 16th September, fingers crossed for good weather, it would be nice not to get wet this time!
Training will be starting soon, so launching the fundraising page for added motivation!
And just for an added challenge...Sara is also walking the Pennine Way, starting 8th June. A National Trail of 268 mile from Edale in Derbyshire to Kirk Yetholm in the Scottish Borders. Rather ambitiously planning to complete it in 17 days! At least there is plenty of time to recover in time for the September marathon walk...
The Yorkshire Brain Tumour Charity is very close to our hearts.
Chris (Sara's husband) sadly died of his Grade 4 brain tumour in October 2022. The tumour was diagnosed in August 2021...completely coming out of nowhere, striking suddenly with an A&E admission. This is how we found out how little is known about this type of cancer - no known cause, and little development in treatments. Chris was very well looked after by the hospitals in Leeds and underwent surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy but sadly his tumour continued to spread. For Chris it impacted his speech, language and memory, but it impacts different people in many different ways - the brain is very complex.
Please donate and help us raise as much cash as we can!
Context from the charity: Brain Tumours can affect anyone, at any time. They are the single biggest cancer killer of the under 40's in the UK. Every week approx. 15 people are diagnosed with a brain tumour in Yorkshire.
Research has been underfunded for brain tumours, with current treatments nearly 40 years old.
We aim to fund world-class research here in Yorkshire to find treatments and a cure. Whilst we do that we will provide support to people living with and affected by brain tumours, emotionally, practically and financially for as long as they need us.
