Story

Sponsor us,

Yes, Sponsor us!!!!!

it’s that time of year when Gateway Wheelers Project Officer Sara does her cycling challenge !!!!!!!

Gateway Wheelers is a charity enabling people with disabilities to enjoy cycling. They are based in Houghton - le - Spring, in the North East of England.

Each year Gateway Wheelers raise vital sponsorship funds by entering a team into the Great North Run (If you would like to run for us, we do have some spaces still available in our 2023 team - contact us for more information).

However, as you know our project officer Sara isn't a runner, she never runs anywhere, but she does cycle everywhere. Last year she raised money by cycling up and down the River Tyne with Anna, a Gateway Wheelers volunteer who had never cycled out of the park.

So what challenge is Sara going to do this year???

Well, she’s going to attempt to cycle from Edinburgh Castle back to Gateway Wheelers in Houghton -le- Spring a total of 183 miles, unsupported!!!!!!

Joining Sara on this years challenge (mainly to make sure Sara keeps heading south) are Andrea George, Angela Wood, Amy Swann, Gill Bradley and Sarah Taylor from Team Hurricane.

Leaving Edinburgh Castle on morning of Thursday 29th June, Sara hopes to reach Gateway Wheeler in Houghton le Spring sometime Sunday 2nd July.

To watch their live daily progress a link will be posted on Gateway Wheelers Facebook page.
