Story
Harmeny is a charity close to my heart. I have been involved with the project to build new learning facilities for five years now and we are so close to our target now.
Harmeny is a place where children discover how to be children again and every time I visit the school it reminds me how privileged I have been with my up-bringing.
We are now in our final stage of fundraising and I'm helping to raise £100K needed in June to enable Harmeny to reach their £3.1m Learning for Life Appeal target and build a new Learning Hub. To this end I am walking 26 miles along the Water of Leith, Edinburgh with friends from Harmeny.
Your support will enable Harmeny to build new learning facilities to deliver specialist secondary vocational and skills-based learning programmes, which will enable young people to remain until the age of 18 (until recently they could only support ages 5-14)
By doing this, a traumatic transition at 14 can be avoided and Harmeny will be able to provide the spaces and opportunities young people, impacted by trauma and adversity need to progress towards positive destinations and develop key skills for independent living after leaving care.
Harmeny Education Trust provides care and education to children from all over Scotland who have experienced early years trauma due to abuse, neglect and severe family disruption. The impact of these early years' experiences is profound and the children struggle to manage their emotions and build positive relationships.
Any support you can give is hugely appreciated.Thank you
