Story
We have been offered one of the last operating 2ft 6in narrow gauge Ministry of Defence battery electric locomotives and three wagons which we think would be fantastic to form a new Permanent Way (track maintenance) Train.
The locomotive was built by Clayton in 1976 and was last working at MoD Shoeburyness, Essex. The wagons are of clam shell design and so open directly onto the track, making them ideal for our track gang to replace sleepers and reballast the track and they are a lot lower than the current PWay Train, making them safer to operate too.
It is currently in store but needs to be moved by June so we are looking to raise £15,000 which will cover the cost of the vehicles, transportation to Kemsley Down by road, a new battery charger and modifications to the wagons for use with ballast).
