Story

Welcome to the Sammy Jo Brandon Foundation Just Giving Page,

Hopefully you are here to make a donation for one of SJBF marathon runners that will be running the London Marathon on Sunday 21st April 2024

Team SJBF has 25 runners this year they are Vinnie Braiden, Jack Daveney, Mark Stewart, James Dyson, Amber Hunt, Lloyd Anderson, Shanie Kelleher, David Mason, Charlie Watts, Jamie Lacy, Joe Kelleher, Lauren Smithwick, Lillie Callaghan, Alice McDavid, Tom Seath, Tommy Edney, Hollie Bunker, Rob Howe, David Macgregor, Charlotte Martin, Kayley Murray, Ian Campbell, Frank Gee, Mark Mezen and Danny Harris, we are so proud of them all for wanting to run for us

They will all be working as a team to raise money for Children With Cancer UK. If your donation is for one runner in particular please put their name on your message.

Sammy Jo lost her battle at 29 years old to Triple Negative Breast Cancer (8.8.88 - 14.5.18) - Sammy Jo always wanted children of her own and she would get upset knowing children were going through the same horrific effects of her treatment. February 2018 we got the devastating news the Cancer had returned in her brain and lungs and only had weeks to live, over the following weeks there were a lot of hard conversations with her, one of them being raising money at her funeral and she said the money raised must go to Children With Cancer UK.

Sammy Jo's vision was a world where every child and young person survives cancer.

For 35 years Children with Cancer UK has funded much needed research into the causes of childhood cancers, and the development of better, kinder treatments as well as funding initiatives that support children and their families through cancer treatment and beyond, they have contributed significantly to a marked increase in childhood cancer survival rates and improved quality of life for patients. This was Sammy Jo's wish

We raised £6,485 on the day of her funeral - a few days later Sammy Jo's cousin Robyn suggested we start a foundation in her name which we all thought was a great idea so a few months later it was all set up.

On 8th August 2019 (Sammy Jo's 31st Birthday and the Sammy Jo Brandon Foundation's 1st Birthday) through lots of hard work from Kim (Mum), Dad (Matt), Danny (Brother), Robyn (Cousin), Jack (Sammy Jo's Boyfriend) and all our family/friends, we had several events and lots of donations we were able to hand over £88,088.88 to Children With Cancer UK what an achievement in our first year.

On 8th August 2020 (Sammy Jo's 32nd Birthday) lot of our events through COVID 19 had been postponed/cancelled but we still managed to hand over to Children with Cancer UK £44,088.88.

On 8th August 2021 (Sammy Jo's 33rd Birthday) again due to COVID 19 we were unable to do most of our events but managed to get a couple in and some wonderful people took it upon themselves to do their own fundraising for the foundation and we handed over to Children With Cancer UK £16,088.88.

On 8th August 2022 (Sammy Jo's 34th Birthday) with lots of events and such lovely people doing their own fundraising for us we raised £81,088.88, plus on top of that giving £3,000 to Cancer Research Race for Life and £2,500 for Niko a young 3 year old boy going through Leukemia - we gave the money to them in Centre Parcs vouchers so when Niko feels well enough Mum Dad, Niko and his sister Nina can have a well deserved break.

On 8th August 2023 (Sammy Jo's 35th Birthday) with lots of events and lovely people/companies doing their own fund raising again we raised £84,888.88 plus £3,000 to Cancer Research Race for Life where this year 55 people took part.

The Sammy Jo Brandon Foundation has raised in five years to date over £330,000 we are so so proud of ourselves and we are sure Sammy Jo will be looking down on all of us amazed at how well we have done in her memory. We know if we have only saved one child's life from cancer, we are fulfilling Sammy Jo's wishes but we are guessing with your help and our fundraising we can save a lot more in the future.

When you lose someone it leaves you devastated, Sammy Jo was loved by so many people, and once you had met her with her infectious laugh you never forgot her.
