Story
If anyone has had any experience with these diseases they’ll know how utterly cruel and heart breaking they are. We chose this charity as unfortunately Sam’s father in law was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s 4 years ago and to see the person you all love slowly disappear in front of your eyes is so upsetting. You still see the odd ‘look’, or heart felt smile when there’s the small hope he recognises you and you know for sure they’re in there somewhere. So much more needs to be done to slow down the process and hopefully we can help with that by raising money and awareness of these terrible illnesses.
Here’s some info about the charity…
There is no cure for Alzheimers, Dementia or Parkinsons. Current treatment options to slowdown the symptoms for people suffering from ADP, range from drugs that help to boost the chemicals in the brain that pass on messages, to alternative therapies and counselling that help people to come to terms with the condition and its implications.
For people diagnosed with dementia there is no way to reverse the damage that has been sustained or to halt the progress of the disease. Treatment plans focus on trying to slow down progression of the disease, coming to terms with the diagnosis and putting personalised plans for care in place.
There is a real need to find a cure for this life-changing and life-limiting condition. At Nottingham Trent University we have the unique opportunity to bring together a multi-disciplinary team of experts to explore new and innovative methods to bring about change in the prognosis of these destructive diseases.
