Story
My uncle along with his 2 brothers in law, are challenging themselves to complete the 3 peaks in 3 days. To raise money for a charity close our family’s heart.
In 2020, just as the global pandemic started, Romano's 1 year old son Joe was diagnosed with a really rare form of Lung cancer.
Joey was taken to Alderhay Hospital in Liverpool to have a large section of his left lung removed. After recovery of his surgery and further investigation into the tumour, the decision was made to undertake 10 months of the most extreme chemotherapy any person can endure, and all this at the age of 1 year and 3 months old.
As the rules to dealing with a global pandemic became apparent, we realised realised were dealing with separation and uncertainty the likes none if us had dealt with before. How we could help one another in the usual way, no one knew. To make matters just that little harder Romano was also made redundant.
Thats where Latch, stepped into help.
Latch have a suite of rooms above rainbow ward in Cardiff which means that parents and siblings can be together for long hospital stays, laundry and a fully stocked kitchen which are free to use really help.
Even during the pandemic they had an advisor come to speak to the family to find out their needs surrounding the diagnosis and treatment. They put Romano in touch with the right organisations to help with various benefits to support the family financially and whilst that was going on in the first few months, they helped with donations to help keep them above water with the bills. This charity absolutely caught them as they fell financially and now we feel it's time to give back.
My challenge is to swim (in the pool) to the IOW 1.2miles before my Uncle Philip, Romano and Jack complete their challenge at the end of August.
Please share this around to help us reach our goal.
