Story
Last year, the World unfortunately lost two amazing people, Lucas Martin and Tom Giles. They were both incredible people, who tragically passed away far too young. I was lucky enough to play most sports with Lucas through School as he was a naturally talented sportsman that always featured in the teams I played in, even though he was the year below. With Tom I had the pleasure of playing with him in the James College rugby team for two years whilst I was at uni. I have made so many memories with both of them that I will always cherish forever.
On the 12th May 2024, I will be undertaking the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon and raising money for Looky's Aid and The UK Sepsis Trust.
Looky's Aid was set up to continue the legacy of Lucas Martin by empowering underprivileged, disadvantaged and disabled young people by helping them to embrace the LOADS values (Love, Optimism, Ambition, Determination and Selflessness) which is what Lucas embodied.
The UK Sepsis Trust, exists to try and fight this life threatening condition, stop preventable deaths and help to support those affected by Sepsis. In the World, every 3 seconds someone passes away from this illness and unfortunately it was very relevant with Tom as he died suddenly from overwhelming sepsis.
The training for this has been very difficult at times however I have kept pushing myself as I have set myself the target of completing it sub 4h 30 min. I know for a fact both Lucas and Tom, would be impressed, but also probably call me stupid for attempting this but hopefully once I complete the marathon, I can raise a beer or two to both of them as I know they would appreciate that too.
