Story
Despite my own health challenges, I am taking part in the Sue Ryder Starlight Hike in Peterborough today, in memory of my late father Dr Seif Eldin Babiker, who was loved by his patients and the community alike.
Unfortunately the original route in Ferry Meadows is flooded. Thus I shall be doing my own route which involves the old hospital site (where he worked initially), the new hospital site and Sue Ryder (approx 6km in total).
Charity has always played a central role in my family’s life. My father never wished for wealth nor fame, but always wanted to ensure those less fortunate than him got an opportunity in life.
I hope through this fundraiser, I can carry on my father’s legacy, and ensure that those facing death or grief do not face it alone, and get an opportunity for comfort, kindness and most importantly compassion 🙏🏼
Sue Ryder Starlight Hike is a series of 5k or 10k walks taking place in various locations around the country this October. They provide an opportunity to get together with family and friends under the stars to remember and celebrate the life of someone special and help ensure no one faces death or grief alone.
£20 could pay for a patient’s meals for the day in one of their hospices. They always do their best to cater for someone’s individual preferences and dietary requirements.
£25 could fund an hour of expert care, so the Sue Ryder doctors and nurses can help manage patients’ pain and symptoms.
£40 could provide their personalised text support service Sue Ryder Grief Coach to someone who is grieving for a year, as well as gentle coaching for friends and family who want to support them.
