Story

At SCF we always choose a charity that is close to our members' hearts and this year is no different. At our annual summer OCR fundraiser we will be raising funds for Parkinson's UK https://www.parkinsons.org.uk/

Parkinson’s is the fastest growing neurological condition in the world. It’s a progressive condition with symptoms that start to appear when the brain can’t make enough dopamine to control movement properly.

No one knows exactly why people get Parkinson's however researchers think it's a combination of age, genetic, and environmental factors that cause the dopamine-producing nerve cells to die. There are over 40 symptoms of Parkinson’s, but the symptoms someone might have, the order they appear and how quickly they develop will be different for everyone.

Parkinson’s UK have invested over £100 million in vital research that has delivered groundbreaking discoveries, new medications and better care. They're working with the brightest minds, funding the best ideas and helping to change the lives of people with Parkinson's now and in the future. This is only possible with the support of generous donors like you.

Anyone can get Parkinson’s. It gets worse over time and there’s no cure. Yet. Funding research into the most promising treatments, we’re getting closer to a cure. Until then, we're improving life for people with Parkinson’s, and the people in their lives. Together we'll find a cure.
