According to the UN World Food Program (WFP), Palestinians in Gaza make up 80% of the global population that is currently experiencing famine. Nearly everyone in Gaza is hungry. At Seven Wells Trust we're raising funds to feed the people of Gaza.

Story

Sayyiduna Hāshim ibn ʿAbd Manāf, the great-grandfather of the Prophet ﷺ was a prominent figure from the Banu Hāshim clan of the Quraish Tribe in Mecca. He established the Quraish’s two major trade caravans: the Winter Caravan to Yemen and the Summer Caravan to northwest Arabia, extending to Palestine and Syria (Surah Quraish).

It is believed that Hāshim’s name, (which means "to crush", also derived from the Arabic root Hashm, meaning "to save the starving"), was given to him due to his remarkable generosity during a severe drought in Mecca. During this time, when the people were suffering from hunger, Hāshim took it upon himself to feed the entire population at his own expense. He personally brought a large supply of flour from Syria by camel caravan, and then slaughtered camels, crushing the bread (or, in some accounts, grinding wheat to make the flour) and meat to provide food for the people. As a result, he earned the title of Hāshim - "the man who fed the starved".

According to Muslim tradition, Hāshim passed away after falling ill while returning from Syria in 497, in Gaza, Palestine. His tomb is said to be located beneath the dome of the Sayed al-Hashim Mosque, constructed around the 12th century, in the al-Daraj neighbourhood of Gaza. This area is named in his honour and has come to be known as Gazat’ul- Hāshim, or " Hāshim’s Gaza."

Inspired by the blessed tradition of the great-grandfather of the Prophet ﷺ, Seven Wells is launching a ‘Bread for Gaza’ emergency fund to help saves lives in ‘Hashim’s Gaza’. As emergency aid now begins to flow into Gaza during the current ceasefire, Seven Wells is fundraising to feed the people of Gaza, through partnering with charities on the ground to help provide this essential aid.

The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said, “The best of you are those who feed others.” [Ahmad]
