Story
On the 21st of April 2024 I will be running the London Marathon. I have chosen the charity RNIB because I can relate to people who are struggling with vision loss after having sight myself for 32 years, to then having to adapt to a new way of life.
Five days after my wedding last year I suddenly began to loose my sight. I was in hospital for over 3 weeks and underwent several treatment plans with no effect, with my sight still deteriorating. By the time I was discharged I had been registered severely sight impaired (registered blind) with no diagnosis. Following being discharged I awaited genetic testing to come back, three months later this came back and I was diagnosed of Leber hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON) disease.
LHON’s is a rare hereditary disease which affects 1 in 50,000 people, and symptoms are more common in men and there is currently no treatment for this.
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, I would really appreciate any support and donations to help me reach my goal of £2000 for the RNIB and help me prove that a disability does not define who you are and doesn’t hold you back.
