Story
Hi guys - thanks for taking the time to look at our page.
For those that don’t know us both, we are Sam and Ryan. We have been great mates since secondary school - and during that time we have never been on a run together.
In the past few years, we have both lose people who were very close to us. Ryan losing his grandfather John and Sam losing his mother Janett. Both of these passings were due to complications surrounding diabetes.
Currently there are 4.3 million people with diabetes in the U.K, and more worryingly there could be up to 850,000 people living with diabetes unknowing.
There isn’t a cure for diabetes right now. But scientists across the UK are pushing boundaries and taking steps to build a future where diabetes can do no harm.
Between the two of us we know the devastation that this condition can cause, and if we can do our bit in finding the cure, we will do.
For that reason, we both decided over a pint of lager and a doner kebab that it would be a great if we could both participate in the Great North Run. (Ryan also used this as an excuse to buy another pair of flashy trainers).
Neither of us are runners (Sam’s a front row forward with miniscus tears in both knees and Ryan isn’t quite Ji Sung Park), so we thought it would be a great challenge for us both - to earn a few quid for Diabetes U.K. along the way.
If you’d like to, we’d thank you so much in contributing towards our run. If we can do our bit to help or even save anyone with Diabetes, we’d be absolutely delighted.
Thanks again guys!!
