Story
For 2023, Colostomy UK is our charity of choice.
First up was 2800 squats in February!! And mad as they are, my sister Nina, my brother Paul, daughter Faye and nieces and nephew, Laura, Chris and Shruti all joined Les and I in raising £1128 for this much worthy cause. A huge thank you to all our donators.
Now to get over that we are holding a Garden Tea Party here at the Corner Bungalow, Sunday 27 August 2023 from 1.30 - 3.30pm. Lots of cakes, bakes and refreshments, enjoyed on the lawn. Please do come along if you can.
Colostomy UK is a UK independent charity that offers support and advice to people with stomas, and to their families, carers and friends. Colostomy UK also campaigns and acts as advocates for ostomates on the many issues they face going about their daily lives. We want hidden conditions to be understood and accepted by all.
1 in 335 people have a stoma.
A stoma is effectively your bowel being brought through the abdomen wall to sit on the outside of your abdomen. A bag then collects your waste.
Since Ruth was diagnosed with Advanced Bowel Cancer in October 2020, her aim has been to raise awareness of the symptoms of Bowel Cancer, to enable people to understand symptoms and take early action. Early diagnosis of bowel cancer WILL save lives.
"My main tumor caused a blockage in my colon (bowel), which meant I had to go through a life saving emergency operation in January 2021. At that time I hadn't a clue what a stoma was. To enable the removal of the main tumor, my descending colon was taken out with many other bits, and my stoma then created.
Since living with a stoma, and understanding what this means, physically, emotionally and mentally, Colostomy UK along with the amazing support groups they have created, has been one of my main stays of support".
Please help us to raise awareness for ostomates, and funds for this much needed charity.
Les and Ruth, will continue to run a number of fundraising events during the year for Colostomy UK.
