Story
Every week in the UK at least 12 young people die of undiagnosed heart conditions.
I was introduced to CRY when I met my husband, Andy Scott who is a patron. They supported him when he had a cardiac arrest in 2005 while playing professional football. My husband was one of the lucky ones. He was one of the lucky few who have symptoms. The team at CRY have continued to support him and my step sons, and now our daughter via screening. I know first hand that the work they do is invaluable.
After going to a parliamentary reception in 2014 and hearing the stories of other families loss, I decided I needed to do something more, and was lucky enough to get a marathon charity place with CRY in 2015.
Tragically in 2018, Andy’s work colleague and good friend Rob Rowan passed away from a Heart condition, aged 29, leaving behind his wonderful wife Suzanne who works tirelessly for CRY via Rob’s foundation to raise money, and awareness. Although Rob was younger than Andy, he was always supportive, was Andy’s sounding board, and Rob’s passing has left a big gap in Andy’s life.
The time has come for me 10 years on from my last marathon to do my bit again, to show that Rob’s memory is very much alive, and I am honoured to be running the 2025 Marathon for CRY in tribute to Rob. I will be proud to run with his name on my back.
The work the charity do to support survivors and their families, and supporting those who aren’t as lucky as we have been, through their grief, is priceless.
