Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I am raising money for Prostate Cancer. Just over a year ago, Grant, went for a check up organised through work. They asked him if he wanted a PSA blood test as he was now over 50. He had always promised himself that as soon as the opportunity arose he would, so thankfully he said yes! The results came back only slightly high. His Dr suggested an MRI, to be on the safe side. Again he said yes! The MRI results came back showing a small abnormality on the left hand side of his prostate, and thankfully he was requested to have a biopsy. Two months after the initial PSA blood test, he heard the news no one wants to hear. "You have prostate cancer." However, they believed hopefully it to be be confined to the prostate. After a bone cancer scan, which was clear, ten weeks later he had surgery - a radical prostatectomy.

The recovery has been difficult at times but for the most part, gone very well. Two months after the operation, he got the fantastic news; his PSA levels were so low they were unreadable and therefore the cancer was suppressed! However, he has to have blood tests regularly to make sure there are no remaining cancer cells in his body, if so, it would mean further treatment.

He was one of the lucky ones as before his diagnosis he had no symptoms, at all!!

This is why I am telling his story. Please make sure the men in your life get checked, and if you have history of it in the family, go earlier than age 50! We have a wonderful NHS that has done so much for us.

So, almost a year to the day since the operation, I am going to run the Robin Hood Half Marathon for Prostate Cancer. I have always been one for the 100 metres and hated the idea of cross country or any long distance so this will be a challenge! Any donation will make a huge difference to helping more people understand this disease and get tested early. Some people won't get the same outcome as Grant if they are not tested soon enough.
