Story
For many people with a learning disability, paid support ends at 10pm, which makes a night out almost impossible. 70% of adults with a learning disability say they would like to get out more in the evenings.
This includes my dear friend Marsaeli who has lived in Edinburgh her whole life, and is the absolute life and soul of any party. She needs a fair bit of support, but loves the arts, loves being out with her tribe, and loves sharing experiences with people. Gig Buddies has been such a wonderful project for her to be involved with, and I know her wonderful mum is also so grateful for the opportunities it has allowed Mars.
This is why I'd love to raise anything I can for them whilst pounding the streets of Edinburgh and its environs on Sunday 26th May! Let's really make the training count!
A bit more about what they do...
Our Gig Buddies project matches members with a learning disability to like minded volunteers with a shared passion and views of a lifelong friendship.
We also have partnerships with multiple venues to advise and support them to ensure they feel comfortable and knowledgeable in welcoming people with a learning disability.
So far, we have helped more than 30 pairings enjoy more independence, have new experiences, and make lifelong friendships. Donate now to help us continue to create friendships powered by shared interests and grow our services to reach more people and venues looking for a more active social life.
