Story
Dear All,
I am offering this excellent opportunity to donate money (to UNICEF), either to support my successful sailing OR of not returning from (actual crew of windy race sailing) the Southern Indian Ocean from Cape Town, South Africa to Fremantle, Australia.
This is one leg of the Clipper Round World Yacht Race, 11 yachts racing around the world every two years. All volunteers are amateurs from all walks of life and you have to go through a selection process. The designated yacht is 70-foot, twin helm, built 2013, fully manual (no automation) and our boat is sponsored by Bekezela Community Foundation.
Fun fact is that this is my (our) ‘honeymoon’ one of the many COVID delays, both my wife and myself will be part of the yacht’s 20 crew; hot bunking on separate watches. (We tried working the same watch and there were ‘line management’ issues)
To help balance the scales I am completing this arduous, physically demanding and 3 week sailing across the Southern Ocean, at the tender age of 43 and the most sedate period of my life. All participants have completed 4 separate weeks of training over the last two years and this makes us safe as training in the rough waters off of Cowes and the Solent being identical to the Southern Ocean.
So, whether you want to see us exceed or for me to have some untimely accident; please support this excellent charity by donating to UNICEF.
