Story
I have stage 4 Neuroendocrine Cancer with tumours (NETS) next to my heart and throughout my liver... but there are many reasons why I'm lucky. Although the tumours were discovered too late, they are slow growing at the moment. I've beaten one cancer already (prostate cancer) and I'm still fighting this one! I am lucky because I have a wonderful family and many friends, and I live at the foot of the beautiful South Downs in Eastbourne.
The South Downs Way is 100 miles long, with many ascents and descents. Due to my condition, I will be taking it slowly and fitting the trek in between work, medical appointments, and other commitments. This will take a few weeks, but I look forward to keeping you informed all the way, here and on social media. I plan to start on the 27th of April from Winchester.
Why Neuroendocrine Cancer UK? Due to a lack of awareness of this cancer, many people are diagnosed too late, like me. The charity works hard to raise the profile of the cancer, stimulate research, and influence improvements in care nationally. Furthermore, the team has been there for me in dark moments, supporting me, answering questions, putting me in touch with other sufferers, and sharing cancer life hacks. They make a real difference but are dependent on fundraising like this.
