The fall of Afghanistan to the Taliban, on August 15 2021, marked a devastating turning point for women and girls. Their fundamental human rights including education, freedom of movement, and participation in sports were abruptly extinguished. Dreams have vanished, replaced by a suffocating darkness and their future remains uncertain. Yet, amidst the despair, a flicker of hope persists.

Inspired by the unwavering spirit of Afghan women and girls, I embark on a global running challenge: running trails, marathons and summiting mountains around the world (alphabetical) across 26 cities with the aim to raise awareness and funds for Afghan women and girls, to chase their seemingly impossible dreams. As a Free to Run Ambassador, I stand with them. Although Free to Run terminated their running project since the fall of Afghanistan, their commitment to empowering Afghan women and girls continues through virtual mental health and strength training programs delivered by local partners in Bamyan. I am excited to support their incredible work.

The journey will start at the heart of Chamonix where I will conquer CCC by UTMB in solidarity to Afghan women and girls while honouring their resilience. Scaling this formidable mountain will test my physical capacity, but it pales in comparison to the daily battles Afghan women and girls face. Their unwavering spirit, despite the darkness, is what truly inspires me going forward.
