When I was 12 years old my mother had breast cancer. It was hard as a child to understand fully what was going on and it was a scary time. Fast forward to present day and now my own children, 11 and 9, are in that same position with my wife having been diagnosed with breast cancer.

To help them feel like they are able to channel their desire to do something to help, they want to complete the race for life to give back to those who are supporting their mummy.

Myself, as well as other family and friends will be running with Brooke and Frankie and helping them raise as much money as possible to help them have a positive in this difficult time.

Message from my wife-

Since being diagnosed with breast cancer, I cannot even begin to describe the support and care I have received from the hospital and the charities like cancer research. It makes me and my family want to give back.

You always think you won’t be “that family,” yet sitting here, writing this, with my bald head and everyone rallying round supporting me, we now are. We’ve had to get used to the fact people no longer cheerfully say “alright?” But instead now empathetically say “are you ok?” And I can truthfully tell them, “I will be” thanks to the support and love around me as well as the amazing work of charities like cancer research.

I am eternally grateful to live in an age where this doesn’t have to be a death sentence anymore, but the fact so many people are still so deeply affected by this, means there is still so much work to be done.
